CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR TROUBLESHOOTING

Our intensive, two-day course provides insight into how to troubleshoot a wide variety of problems that can occur with centrifugal compressors and their gas turbine or electric motor driver. The course will include a series of simulated practical case studies where delegates will be challenged to identify and correct real-life problems using a standard troubleshooting methodology.

At the end of this course, delegates will:

-Understand what problem-solving and troubleshooting is and how to do it

-Be able to identify abnormal conditions on a centrifugal compressor including problems with the:

  • Anti-surge control system
  • Recycle valve
  • Gas turbine driver
  • Electric motor driver
  • Seal gas system
  • Lube oil system
  • Bearings
  • Discharge temperature
  • Interaction between capacity control and anti-surge controllers
  • Parallel operation – “hunting”

ESD Simulation Training and ExplainMedia have created a brand new online course, Centrifugal Compressor Training. This course is an affordable way to access ESD’s centrifugal compressor video at the low price of USD $149. The course undertakes an in-depth analysis of centrifugal compressors, which includes topics from how they are made to how to operate them. The course contains readings, video modules, and quizzes which all help enhance learning when compared to a text-based course.

Centrifugal Compressor Training focuses on four main topics:

  • Basic Principles
  • Centrifugal Compressor Construction
  • Ancillary Equipment
  • Control and Operation

The course uses video models of compressors like the one below:

PEARL Control Room Operator Training

Written by Mark Dixon on Wednesday November 18th 2020

November 18, 2020

Our control room operations course, otherwise known as PEARL, is one of our most technologically advanced courses. Using our state-of-the-art PEARL simulator, we can train up to two delegates throughout four to five-day sessions. It is portable so we can deliver the training at your location or ours. Like many of our courses, PEARL uses advanced simulations in a safe environment, so operators can receive the experience they need before entering a real operations environment. Topics covered on a typical course include:

  • Navigating control graphics / DCS screens
  • Process control – controllers, digital inputs, split-range, cascade
  • ESD Systems – cause and effect diagrams, logic, overrides, resets, inhibits
  • Process start-up
  • Troubleshooting

This course is ideal for prospective control room operators, team leaders, supervisors, or anyone wanting to experience control room operations in a simulated environment. Contact your local ESD office for more information.

ESD is offering a discount on all online courses until the end of September to celebrate the release of the new website,  Compressors101! For the next few weeks, anyone wishing to recieve 50% off online courses will be able to by accessing a post on Compressors101’s here. Use the discount code from the article at checkout when signing up for an ESD course.

Compressors101 is a place to learn about the world of compressors, from news and current events within the industry, to articles and papers to enhance one’s knowledge on compressors. Compressors101 aims to be a place where engineers, operators, or anyone interested in compressors can come to learn more about the topic. Compressors101 aims to be a hub for those in the industry, and while it is still in its early stages, it has the ability to reach these goals because of the knowledge and experience ESD brings to the table.

Reciprocating Compressor Simulation Model

Written by Mark Dixon on Thursday June 18th 2020

June 18, 2020

ESD Simulation Training is creating a brand-new reciprocating compressor model to replace the current model used in many of our courses. The model will supplement the learning of anyone taking the courses, while also making the courses far more engaging. The new model will allow ESD to keep courses accurate and up to date.

Behind the development of the model is a team made up of ESD’s lead engineers and programmers, all of whom are confident that this model will deliver ESD’s proven quality and attention to detail. Not only will the new model be up to date, but it will contain greater capabilities, with a more modern user interface that makes the simulations even more comparable to practical scenarios than with the older versions. There will also be more configurations and ways to change the data. With the interactive model, delegates will be able to simulate possible outcomes of the plant and troubleshoot issues, while receiving an accurate demonstration.

This model will help teach engineers and operational personnel how to achieve the highest standards of performance and safety within their jobs, while learning in a relaxed environment.

Online Training Courses

Amidst the panic surrounding Covid-19, our revamped online versions of our in-class courses have proved highly effective. Many delegates have found online courses to be an easy way to receive the same level of learning from the comfort of their homes. A common opinion of those who took the online versions of the courses was that “[The] course was very good. Having to carry out training from home had no impact on the quality of the training experience”.

The convenience factor has proved beneficial, as one delegate stated “I also really enjoyed taking the course online – it was very convenient, ensured everyone got to try the simulations and also made it easier to ask questions”. Course accessibility is now proving easier than ever, as anyone who signs up for a course can receive training from anywhere in the world, regardless of time zones.

The administration of the courses is quite simple, as all that is necessary is a computer with a stable internet connection. Once a course is confirmed, we will send a laptop pre-loaded with simulation materials and the course manual, so that a delegate can video-call with our instructors while also receiving the hands-on experience that proves essential for learning.

For more information on courses, you can view our course calendar. For limited time promotions on online courses, contact your nearest ESD office.
